a friend of mine...

Who, What, Where?
Lindsey: Christian, Blogger- Tanzania, East Africa

Her 6 sentence short story is...
I actually started this blog to keep track of my training for my first 10K that I was going to run. Somehow, it turned into a blog chronicling my adventures with running, good food, and simple, everyday activities. Along with my brothers, my little dog, Panya is one of the main stars. I love to be outdoors running, biking, hiking and enjoying the wonderful beauty of God's creation! I ended up loving to blog - it became one of my hobbies. :) Thanks so much to Purposely at Home for doing this on her blog - it's lots of fun to learn about new ones!

Her blog is called...

The thing at the heart of her blog is...
Nature, family, food, and fitness

6 things that make her world go round...
1. God the Father, who Life would be impossible without.

2. A wonderful and funny family.

3. My Jack Russell Terrier, Panya - her character is funnily similar to my own...hmmm...

4. Skype is a great thing for keeping in touch with family and friends.

5.  Flowers and plants - they can brighten up any spot!

6. Chocolate chip cookies

Her perfect film would consist of...
A chick flick that is completely clean. Somebody should get on that! :)

we've been invaded...by an uninvited guest.

“Eek! Please come get it!” I have yet to get up the courage to pick one up….even with a wad of tissue. Most of the time, the brother or mom comes to the rescue. Even the sis has come running to deliver me from the frightening sight of the “little giant”.
We have been invaded.
Every few years, around this time, they come knocking on the door. Or, should I say, they come right on in…uninvited. We have many visitors welcomed into our home year round, but these "little giants" are unwelcome guests. The hideous sight of them is enough to make my skin crawl.
There may be one hiding in the cabinets behind pots and pans. Or, they greet us when we open up our closets to pick out an outfit for the day. We are even blessed with the surprise of seeing them in the washer when we go to start a load of whites and lights.
We have tried calling the man with his little wand and tank that is feared by them all. We have used bottles of poisonous spray…to many to count.
They still appear in troops without ever knowing a battle is raging.
Like a little mother mouse, always having babies (it seems).

Who is our uninvited guest?
The “little giant” that give me the ibby-gibbies. That little thing that can sneak up on you in an instant, and is actually a little pesky creature made by God.

You really want to know?
THE CRICKET!
That’s who.

All the Way My Savior Leads Me

...that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.
Colossians 1:9

When Fanny Crosby wrote, "All the way my Savior leads me, What have I to ask betide?" she was expressing her own testimony of God's guidance. Even her blindness, she realized, was part of His plan.

When Fanny was about six weeks old, her parents had realized with alarm that something was wrong with her eyes. The local doctor was away, but the Crosbys found a man--no one afterward recalled his name--who claimed to be a physician. He put hot poultice on the baby's inflamed eyes, insisting it would draw out the infection. The infection did clear up, but white scars appeared, and in the months that followed the baby registered no response to objects held before her. As it turned out, Fanny was not totally blind. Even in old age she could discern day from night. But her vision was gone.

Yet this stimulated other gifts, such as her phenomenal memory. As a child, Fanny memorized whole sections of the Bible, including most of the Pentateuch, the four Gospels, all of Proverbs, and vast portions of other books. Whenever she wanted to "read" a passage, she just turned there in her mental "Bible" and read it verbatim. "This Holy Book," she said when eighty-five, "has nurtured my entire life."

Years later, Fanny viewed her blindness as a special gift from God, believing He had given her a particular "soul-vision" which equipped her for special work. "It was the best thing that could have happened to me," she declared. "How in the world could I have lived such a helpful life had I not been blind?"

"Don't blame the doctor," Fanny said on another occasion. "He is probably dead by this time. But if I could meet him, I would tell him that he unwittingly did me the greatest favor in the world."

Though this hymn expressed Fanny Crosby's lifelong testimony, it was prompted by a specific incident in 1874. One day she didn't have enough money to pay her rent. Just as she committed the matter to God in prayer, a stranger appeared at her door and pressed a ten-dollar bill in her hand before disappearing. It was the very amount needed. That night, she wrote the words to "All the Way My Savior Leads Me."

it's the post you've all been waiting for...

Ok.

I told you that we have some REALLY big news at our house?

Well, WE DO!!

My brother is getting married to her!!!! *ta-da*

I am so happy for them. They were like, made for each other. They even have the exact same hair color....a match made in heaven. ;D

I mean, it was just meant to be.

I was able to take a few pictures of the happy couple a few days ago, and thought I would share them with the blog family....

....
Sooooo, um....does anybody have any suggestions or tips? I mean, I've never really had a brother be engaged before. :)

hamburgers, hot dogs, and a little ring

We had a fall get-together at our house with some of our friends.

We rode horses, tossed the football, and (of course!) took pictures. Mom (the queen of the grill) made some fabulous hamburgers and hot dogs in which we joyfully feasted on. :)

When the sun was setting, we all loaded up into the trailer, pulled behind the dodge dually, and went on a hayride. When we got back, we went down to the campsite, started a roaring fire, and prepared our yummy smores. While munching away, we sang devo songs and hymns. It was a fun night of fellowship!

I love candid shots! ;D

Us country girls love our camo!

Yes, the fire was that hot....poor Lacee and Taylor. :)

"It's a bear. It's a monster....oh, it's only the bro."

Stay tuned for a BIG, WONDERMOUS, EXCITING, and MARVELOUS announcement........

October 23, 2011

oh how i love you, smell good thingy.

I have discovered it.

The greatest invention ever.

A handy little gadget that dispenses fumes.

Lemonade and strawberry fumes.

It fits perfectly into the gray vent of the Lincoln Navigator. Everytime I am on my way to a destination, I am welcomed into my SUV with the pleasant scent of the pink and yellow liquid. As my mom put it, "it is like aromatherapy." :)

It is refreshing.

This little tool reminded me:

Are we a sweet savour to God?

Does our attitude toward Him and others please Him or disappoint Him?

Sometimes, doing the wrong thing may be easy, and our choices may "smell good" to the world, but do we "smell pleasant" to God? I hope that you will have the courage to radiate with the fragrance of Christ!

Today, how are you smelling? ;)

Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.
2 Corinthians 2:14, 15

what about our faith?

What do you imagine when you hear the word faith?  Repelling off a cliff?  White-water rafting?  Snow skiing in Colorado?  Or does faith bring you to your knees in prayer?
In Luke’s gospel, Jesus tells a parable about a persistent widow. He proposes a just God does not become weary of our cries.  Jesus asked this question at the parable’s conclusion, “When the Son of Man comes will He really find faith on earth?”
“My Faith Looks Up to Thee” is a song written by Ray Palmer.   Palmer was busy working as a store clerk, attending classes at Yale, teaching in New York, with future expectations of becoming a minister. He was disheartened with his unattained pursuits.
In 1830, at the age of 24, Palmer was approached by Lowell Mason, who was focusing on pursuing musical interests.  Mason directed chorus's, published hymnals, and was compiling a songbook. He asked Palmer to help him compose hymns for his projected hymnbook.
Palmer pulled a little book from his pocket and showed Mason a poem that he had written two years before in his one-room apartment.  It was a prayerful plea to give him renewed courage and faith when he was feeling discouraged.  He later said that he “had not the slightest intention of writing for others, least of all a hymn for Christian worship.”
Does our faith look up, when we are feeling dejected?  God can turn our tearful prayers into a song.  Allow God to find faith on earth…look up!

Who, What, Where?
Joy: Christian, Wife, Mother, Blogger, in Tanzania, East Africa

Her 6 sentence short story is...
When I was 9 or 10 years old I  had a school assignment to write a paragraph about what my life would be like in 20 years, and I stated that I wanted to marry a missionary and have 3 or 4 children. Skip forward a few years to my wedding ceremony, during which this passage was read "...whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge..." (Ruth 1:16)  Now, here I sit in Iringa, Tanzania, married to a man who has given his life to sharing the gospel, and blessed with four precious children who are really no longer children (make that five - I have a wonderful son-in-law as an added blessing). I am a quiet person and sometimes feel so inadequate for the role I play, but with God's help, I do the best I can; after all, apparently He thought I was up to the task. When I'm not cooking, cleaning, quilting or playing the part of secretary/editor for my husband, then I enjoy reading and writing. Blogging is one way I have found to stay in touch with the rest of the world.

Her blog is called...

The thing at the heart of her blog is...
Faith and Family - that pretty much sums it up.

6 things that make her world go round...
1. Living life as a child of God.

2. My wonderful husband and children - can't imagine life without them.

3. Laughing at witty puns and dumb jokes. The world needs more laughter.

4. Keeping in touch with family and friends who are too far away.

5. I'd love to be able to go to a fabric store and buy some cute material in order to make some crafty projects.

6. I enjoy the challenge of making delicious food for my family, in spite of limited available ingredients.

Her perfect film would consist of...
My movie viewing is quite limited. I honestly have no idea what a perfect film might be! My preferences are quite varied. I enjoy movies about WWII, the Civil War era, family-oriented movies with a western theme, and I also love movies that are set in Africa - a lot. The most important criteria to me: it must be CLEAN!

which one?

“A woman would be much better off if she could distinguish the difference between a man that flatters her and a man that compliments her.

A man that spends money on her and a man who invests in her.

A man that views her as property and a man that views her properly.

A man that lusts after her and a man that loves her.

A man that believes he is God's gift to women and a man that remembers a woman was God's gift to man."

Note: This saying was shared with me from a friend through an email.

I'm a Little Teacup

My grandmother sent this little story to me and I thought it to be so powerful....

There was a couple who took a trip to  England to shop in a beautiful antique store to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.  They both liked antiques and pottery, and especially teacups.

Spotting an exceptional cup, they asked "May we see that?  We've never seen a cup quite so beautiful."

As  the lady handed it to them, suddenly the teacup spoke, "You don't understand. I  have not always been a teacup. There was a time when I was just a lump of red  clay. My master took me and rolled me, pounded and patted me over and over and I yelled out, "Don't do that. I  don't like it! Let me alone," but he only smiled, and gently said, "Not yet."

Then  WHAM! I was placed on a spinning wheel and suddenly I was made to suit himself and then he put me in the oven. I never felt such heat. I yelled and  knocked and pounded at the door.   "Help! Get me out of here!" I could see him through the opening and I could read his lips as he shook his head from side to side, "Not yet."

When I thought I couldn't bear it another minute, the door opened. He carefully took me out and put me on the shelf, and I began to cool. Oh, that felt so good! "Ah, this is  much better," I thought.

But, after I cooled he picked me up and he brushed and painted me all over.  The fumes were horrible.  I thought I would gag. "Oh, please, stop it, stop, I cried."  He only shook his head and said, "Not  yet."
Then  suddenly he puts me back in to the oven. Only it was not like the first one.  This was twice as hot and I just knew I would suffocate. I begged.  I pleaded.  I screamed. I cried.  I was  convinced I would never make it. I was ready to give up.  Just then the door opened and he took me out and again placed me on the shelf, where I cooled and waited and waited, wondering, "What's he going to do to me next?"

An hour later he handed me a mirror and said, "Look at yourself." And I did. I  said, "That's not me.  That couldn't be me. It's beautiful. I'm beautiful!"

Quietly he spoke: "I want you to remember. I know it hurt to be rolled and pounded and patted, but had I just left you alone, you'd have dried up. I  know it made you dizzy to spin around on the wheel, but if I had stopped, you would have crumbled. I know it hurt and it was hot and disagreeable in the oven, but if I hadn't put you there, you would have cracked. I know the fumes were bad when I brushed and painted you all over, but if I hadn't done that, you never would have hardened. You would not have had any color in your life. If I hadn't put you back in that second oven, you wouldn't have survived for long because the hardness would not have held. Now you are a finished product. Now you are what I had in mind when I first began with you."

The moral of this story is this: God knows what He's doing for each of us. He is the potter, and we are His clay. He will mold us and make us and expose us to just enough pressures of just the right kinds that we may be made into a flawless piece of work to fulfill His good, pleasing and perfect.

So  when life seems hard, and you are being pounded and patted and pushed almost beyond endurance; when your world seems to be spinning out of control; when you feel like you are in a fiery furnace of trials; when life seems to "stink", try this.

Brew a cup of your favorite tea (or coffee) in your prettiest tea cup, sit down and think on this story and then, have a little talk with the Potter.

3 girls + 2 boys = plain happiness

Aren't they SO cute?!

There's nothin' like piling on top of the sis. ;)

"Hmmmm, Jeremiah, how in the world do they expect us to understand these directions to this game?"

Our faces...the kiddos choice of movie was Gotta Catch Santa Clause. It ended up being...okay.

We wrapped up the night with Barbie in a Swan Princess. One of my favorites... :)

Answering the Guy Questions: Chapter Seven

Here is the last chapter in the book.... I hope you have enjoyed these little excerpts and have gleaned something from them as I have. I have really enjoyed reading all of Leslie's books. I hope you will consider getting comfortable in a easy chair, with a cup of tea in hand, and read the entire book, Answering the Guy Questions....

Chapter Seven
Fairy-Tale Love Stories

In a modern world ravaged by mindless sex and mediocre marriages, achieving a fairy-tale love story is no small accomplishment. The enemy of our souls seems to be extra aggressive these days in his attempts to ruin beautiful romances before they even begin. It makes sense, if you think about it. When relationships are built upon God's perfect pattern, they lead to strong, healthy, Christ-centered marriages. Strong, Christ-centered marriages lead to strong Christ-centered families. And strong, Christ-centered families breed strong, Christ-centered churches and communities. Strong, Christ-centered churches and communities progress the kingdom of God and wage war on the kingdom of darkness. So it's no wonder Satan wants to destroy the beauty of God-scripted romance.

Building a romance God's way is not a formula. God works differently in different people. However there are certain principles that always govern a Christ-centered relationship. If you truly build your life and love story around these principles, you can be certain you'll experience a beautiful romance and avoid the heartache so common in our modern times.

Principle One: Keep Christ at the Center
Your romance with Christ is not supposed to be a stand-in until you finally meet the man you'll marry. Your romance with Christ is meant to be the lifelong passion of your heart and soul. Your earthy love story should pale in comparison to your love story with Christ--not just during your single years, but everyday for the rest of your life. And if it ever comes down to a choice between Christ and your future husband, Jesus Christ must always come first.

Principle Two: Vigilantly Protect Purity
The reason we don't understand the importance of purity in because we don't understand the significance of the marriage covenant. A wedding isn't merely a ceremony in which you verbally commit to love each other for the rest of your lives. A wedding is a sacred exchange--a holy covenant in which two lives become one. Until you have entered into that covenant, you are still individuals--no matter how committed you might be to the relationship. Once you enter the sacred covenant, you are no longer two individuals, but "one flesh." Then and only then are you free to enjoy each other's bodies in an intimate way.
If you engage in sensual touch prior to entering that sacred covenant, you dishonor God's perfect design and leave yourselves wide open for the enemy to ravage the beauty and nobility of your relationship.

Principle Three: Experience God's Restoration
God-scripted love stories are not just for those who have never compromised. In fact, the very reason that Christ sacrificed everything for us was to offer us the chance to be restored, washed clean, and given a hope and a future.
If you feel that you've "gone too far" to experience a truly pure and beautiful God-scripted love story, let me assure you that it's never too late to be restored and made new by His amazing cleansing blood.

I love this time of the year. One of my favorite things about football season, besides all the excitement of touchdowns and interceptions,....are Alabama hoodies. And, believe me, we have plenty of them at our house. ;)

What is one of your favorite things about football season?
Do you have a certain favorite article of "team clothing?" :)

a friend of mine...

Who, What, Where?
Kristen/[Preacher's] Wife and Mother/UCLA (Upper-Corner, Lower Alabama)

Her 6 sentence short story is...
For a girl who had always said she wouldn't date till she was in her twenties, and who would never have children, life has had some unexpected, though totally welcomed, twists. I never do anything conventional; I was married at eighteen, pregnant at nineteen, and had my first child at twenty. I went from graduating high school to preacher's wife, and although it hasn't always been easy...I wouldn't change it for the world. God has always been my stability throughout these last four years, when the most unexpected things have taken place. Without Him, I am nothing--a nobody. But with Him, I can do all things. (Philippians 4:13)

Her blog is called...

The thing at the heart of her blog is..
A Christian life- with all the ups and downs- with a focus on family.

2. My precious family

3. Fellowshipping with the Lord's church

4. My camera

5. A good book, especially reading it in a cozy bed

6. Relaxation after the kidlet goes to bed (seriously, it's just glorious!)

Her perfect film would consist of...
Historical romance, Think Gone with the Wind or Pride & Prejudice or Emma (the one with Jonny Lee Miller, not Gwyneth Paltrow).

a friend of mine...

India is very special to our family since she is the brother's really good frind.
*wink, wink*

Who, What, Where?
India/Student, Christian, Blogger/Alabama or Virginia

Her 6 sentence short story is...
Picture your average Christian college student life, and you've got it! When in school I live the city life full of crazy happenings and lots of drama, an amazing contrast to what I am used to. When at home, I live like an old fashioned country girl with my pa, my ma, and all my many siblings where I still walk around barefoot outside. I'm working diligently on my studies to be a counselor, but sometimes, being the outgoing person that I am, I tend to spend a little to much time hanging out and talking to good friends. If you had asked me a few years ago what I thought I would be doing with my life, counseling and being in Alabama were not part of my answer, but God has other plans and I am so glad that He does. Everyday I get excited to see what changes in my life God will make next.

Her blog is called...

The thing at the heart of her blog is...
Family, Godly living, friendships, inspirational thoughts, and Peppermint Tea

6 things that make her world go round...
1. My relationship with God

2. My family and loved ones

3. Being able to be there for and help others

4. Music (that I'm singing or listening too)

5. God's creation; I love hiking

6. Peppermint Tea ;)

Her perfect film would consist of...
A wholesome love story, set in the 1800's because I love their clothing and the way they talked in that time period. Any of Jane Austin's books can make great movies.
