jamaica :: day two
saturday, a free day, our first breakfast at the Casa Maria, a trip to the local grocery (hi-lo), 99 J's to 1 American dollar, relaxing, card games of UNO and Phase 10, taking a trip to Ocho, buying t-shirts, eating jerk chicken at the jerk shack, getting ready to go to the Dunbar's house, delicious Jamaican finger foods, visiting on the front porch with lots of laughs, Skyping him before bed, going to bed looking forward to seeing all our Jamaican friends at church the next morning.

jamaica :: day one
alarm going off at 3 a.m., the excitement of being up before the chickens, loading the sub, a rainy morning, meeting at brother jimmy's house, caravaning with 4 vehicles, super fast check-in, arriving at concourse C, an amazing pilot with a smooth flight (besides some turbulence due to the weather), touching down in MoBay, a 15 min wait for the vans (super fast compared to the 2-hour-wait last visit), a 2 1/2 hour drive to the hotel, settling into our rooms (me, the sis and our roomie were blessed enough to have a room with AC), nice breezes blowing, the rolling waves of the ocean, our first JAMA meal of the week, working out to Shawn T in a warm room (and drenching with sweat ;D), hitting the bed...exhausted.
daddy: one of the four american drivers |
(due to the internet not really working at the hotel, the tech guy had to manually put in all our apple numbers in order for any of us to get internet.
yeah. 16 gadgets. whew.)

e-n-g-a-g-e-d.
it all started last night...
it was daddy's birthday.
(come to find out sis's finance had been texting mom all day about his proposal that would happen that night.
sneaky dudes.)
sis's fiance (that's going to take some getting used to ;P), bro, and sis-in-law all came over to have a scrumptious dinner of turnip green soup and homemade cornbread.
the night was like any other.
the normal hanging out in the living room,
gathering around the dinner table,
laughing till our stomachs hurt,
you know, stuff like that.
daddy proceeded to open his gifts:
a 1-hour golf lesson
2 Magellan shirts
1 portable hammock
we snapped a quick family picture and moved into the living room to look at Jamaica pictures.
little did we know what was about to happen. *ahem* i mean, mom already knew. |
the Jamaica pictures were seen, and the bro and sis-in-law left due to the brother not feeling well.
i do my normal.
head out into the night to feed the horses.
little did i know what was going on in the living room of the house.
sis's fiance got one more okay from mom
(who was in the kitchen listening in on the whole thing)
and sprung into action.
the proposal went something like this:
they have put numerous lego models together.
he brought out a lego model dump truck box out and had sis to open it.
as she slid the cardboard piece out of the box, there it was.
the ring box.
(and you know how it goes. she's shocked. she can't speak. he takes the ring box out of her hand and gets on one knee. yadda yadda yadda. hehe!)
i have the horses fed and open the back door.
mom, sis, and fiance are all looking at me with these strange grins on their faces.
staring at me = awkward.
and then, i see that mom has her iphone out filming me.
doubly awkward.
the sis takes a few steps toward me and holds our her left hand.
i'm thinking:
"uh, sis what in the world are you doing?"
weirdo.
and then, i see it.
the bling bling.
yup, i start screaming. and shaking. and jumping up and down.
and mom got it all on camera.
talking about awkward.
"oh my word! oh my word! oh my word!!" |
daddy is in the back of the house.
mom goes to the back and she asks daddy (who is in the shower):
"are you almost done?"
"no."
"we have another birthday present for you."
he finally appears and reacts (his reaction wasn't half as exciting as mine was ;P) and hugs the happy couple.
sis and fiance then call his parents and wake them up (it is almost 10 pm) and tell them the amazing news.
we call mom's parents and get them on speaker phone and text them a picture of the ring.
we get to hear their reaction.
priceless.
we load up in the dually and head to the bro and sis-in-laws house.
bro comes out first.
sis shows her ring.
his reaction was too cute.
"let me go get Indy."
(in his little cute bro voice)
he then dashes into the house to bring out his wifey.
sis-in-law comes out and we all oooh and aaah over the ring again.
the five of us come back home to celebrate some more.
the love birds whisper in the living room and i go upstairs to make a phone call.
sis's fiance leaves around 11 pm.
we stay up past 12.
i'm on the phone and sis is just beyond excited.
she only gets 2 hours of sleep.
instagram is blown up and the fingers are smokin' with all the texting and phone calls going on around here.
may the wedding plans begin!
eeeek!
i still can't believe it.
y'all, my baby sister is getting married to the man of her dreams.
and i couldn't have asked for a better brother-in-law.

daddy is the birthday boy.
today is a great day.
today is my daddy's 50-something birthday.
(yeah. uh huh. you really thought i was going to put his actual age on this little space? well, wrong.
hehe! ;)
he is our rock.
our protector and provider for our family.
the one that cuts our grass and lets us drive his big truck.
the daddy that is active in his children's life and doesn't think work is more important than family.
the one that will get up at 4:00 a.m. to get a job done so that he can make it back in time.
a player that you would want on your team.
the biggest fan of alabama football that you have ever seen (rollllll tide!).
an elder in the Lord's church.
an encourager.
a missionary to the island of jamaica.
the greatest bass singer.
a 5k runner and can be a goof-off.
a dedicated county commissioner.
biggest protector of his daughters.
a supportive hubby to mom whom he adores.
that's my daddy.
